Car Maintenance and Safety Tips From Honest Car Dealer

Keeping your car well maintained is essential not only to its continued performance but also to ensuring you and your passengers’ safety, which is why we want to offer you some easy but significant car maintenance and safety tips. While it’s important to take your vehicle in for factory scheduled maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, etc., there are also things you can do on your own to make sure that your car is always in good working order. These tips for simple car maintenance won’t substitute for having ASE certified maintenance and repair technicians tune up and examine your vehicle at regular intervals, but they can help you avoid a problem before it starts.

Car Maintenance and Safety Tips You Can Perform Yourself

Each year during the winter season, dealers will advertise specials in their services department along the lines of “winterization” as a form of car maintenance and safety checks. In reality, a lot of this work can be done without the need for a state-of-the-art dealer services facility. You can prevent a great deal of car maintenance costs by doing things as simple as monitoring tire pressure. When the weather gets cold and air temperatures drop, so does the pressure in your tires. Keeping an eye on this and making sure to fill your tires up with more air when their pressure gets low is a great way to avoid damage to the tires, loss of control and handling responsiveness, and decreased fuel efficiency.

A few other simple things you can do to keep your car maintained are to check the antifreeze mixture and levels, research your car online to see if it requires low-viscosity oil in the winter months, and check the wiper fluid and replace the windshield wipers if you live in an area that gets snow. In general, it is also ideal to have an emergency kit with first aid materials and road flares somewhere in your car in case of an accident or inclement weather.
