Selling a car can be a difficult process to handle. Knowing where to put your car, how much to sell it for, and whether or not anybody is even interested in the type of car you have make it a process that can be mind boggling for many people. There are a few basic tips that you should consider before selling any vehicle. These tips will help you sell your car quickly and for a price that is fair for you and the buyer.
Understand Your Car
One of the most common mistakes people make when it comes time to sell their vehicle is not knowing the value of their car and how well it sits on the market. Is your vehicle a highly sought after model that is likely to appeal to a lot of people, or a more expensive vehicle that is highly specialized? Family vehicles such as sedans are often easy sells as people are always looking for basic, cheap transportation. Selling a convertible or a sports car in winter may be difficult.
Proper Pricing Techniques
Another problem people selling cars run into is proper pricing — far too many people sell their cars for too much money. Find out the value of your car from the “Kelley Blue Book” and then search through your newspaper, online car selling sites, and other places that sell cars in your area to find a price for your vehicle. Value your vehicle slightly under these prices to make it appealing, but not too low. Pricing it too low will make you seem desperate and may make the vehicle seem like it’s lower in quality. Price it slightly higher than the price you want so that you can bargain down to the price you want.
Use Curb Appeal
The best way to make your car stand out is to make it look as nice as possible, maximizing it’s “curb appeal.” Clean out all the garbage in the car and take it to a car wash. Clean it inside and out, using a car vacuum for the inside and the best car wash option available. Get it detailed if necessary and have any dents, dings and scrapes removed. Fix any small problems as opposed to selling “as is” — it’ll makes the car a more appealing buy.
If you put your phone number or e-mail in an advertisement for your vehicle, make sure to answer the phone at all times, including calls of people you may not know. People may not leave a message, which is ruining your chance to sell the car. You should also make sure to check your e-mail regularly and reply promptly. Be polite in all conversations with potential buyers.
